Homeschool, co-op & microschool funding in NWA

Since 2024-25, Arkansas families can use the Education Freedom Account to homeschool. 3,422 accounts statewide were homeschool accounts that first year, about a quarter of the total. Here is how it works, and where Northwest Arkansas families have spent theirs.

No region in Arkansas mixes homeschool, co-op and microschool learning like Northwest Arkansas. In 2024-25, local families paid an Acton-style microschool, the Amazeum, Crystal Bridges, NWA Community College, literacy and therapy specialists, and a classical homeschool community from their accounts.

How a homeschool account works

You apply the same way as private-school families. Once funded, you spend through ClassWallet: approved providers invoice it directly, you buy in its marketplace, or you submit receipts for approved purchases. Statewide in 2024-25, homeschool spending went mostly to curriculum, supplies and homeschool program tuition. Smaller amounts went to tutoring, enrichment, assessment and therapy.

Two rules trip people up. Spending on extracurriculars, PE and transportation is capped by a 2025 law. And purchases outside the core categories may need approval before you buy, so ask the EFA office first if you're unsure.

An accredited core, if you want one

Many homeschool families want a transcript-ready academic program under the flexibility. An online classical Christian school such as our featured partner AmFaith can be that core, with co-ops and local classes around it.
